All you’ll need to do is combine the fresh, aromatic ingredients in a large slow cooker and let them simmer on low for about 4 hours. Once the Mulled Cider is completely cooked, it’s ready to be Spiked with your choice of  bourbon, brandy, or dark rum. Then voila — you have a cozy beverage that is perfect for any autumn occasion!

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon fresh cider or unfiltered apple juice
  • 1 medium orange, ¼ inch thick slices
  • 1 (1 1/2-inch) piece fresh ginger, ¼ inch thick slices
  • 5 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 5 star anise pods

Add a splash

  • 1 1/2 cups bourbon, brandy, or dark rum
    • Spike your Mulled Cider after it has cooked for 4 hours

Garnish

  • Serve in your favorite mugs, topped with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick

Chef’s tip

Place the spices in a tea sachet so they can easily be removed from the slow cooker prior to serving — saving the cinnamon sticks for garnishing
